Kristian May, LMFT, Co-Founder, Partner, Clinical Director

Kristian is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist serving clients at Discovery Compass in Newnan. Kristian’s greatest desire is to create a practice that fosters personal healing, restores marriages, and strengthens families. As Clinical Director, Kristian’s vision extends beyond individual therapy sessions. She is passionate about creating meaningful relationships within the community and developing clinicians who are adept at navigating pain and diverse sufferings. Kristian is also dedicated to training up the next generation of master-level therapists, ensuring they are equipped with the skills and empathy needed to make a significant impact.

Kristian graduated from LaGrange College with a Bachelor’s in Psychology and then pursued her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. In her career as a therapist, Kristian has worked with clients from diverse backgrounds, addressing mental health and substance abuse issues in both private practice and community-based settings.

Kristian specializes in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), an attachment-based therapy that helps individuals, families, and couples understand and improve their emotional connection with themselves and others.  She believes that secure emotional connections are the foundation for healthy relationships and personal wellbeing. Additionally, she utilizes PREPARE/ENRICH, a tool designed to enhance relationships and prepare couples for marriage.

Kristian has a knack for helping couples feel safe and reach vulnerability and connection together, even while navigating tough phases and complex pain or trauma. She works with couples to identify negative interaction patterns, underlying defenses, and destructive behaviors like criticism, contempt, defensiveness, and emotional withdrawal. Her guidance helps couples understand and transform these dynamics, fostering healthier, more supportive relationships.

Kristian offers individual therapy to teens and adults, as well as family and couples therapy. She is experienced in treating anxiety, depression, grief, couples’ conflicts, marriage enrichment, premarital counseling, family conflicts, addiction, and PTSD. Her work is characterized by a strong emphasis on fostering secure attachments and building emotional resilience.

Kristian enjoys meeting clients where they are in life and guiding them on their path to self-discovery. She creates a safe and welcoming environment where clients can freely express themselves, build their self-esteem, and reach their full potential.
